The ISS gets an office!

Hello everyone!
Man do we here at the ISS have a lot going on. All of it good of course!

We sealed the deal on an office suite this morning and just wanted to share the good news with everyone! We will be moving in this week and throughout the weekend. How awesome is that?!?!

Here is what the office space will offer us:
Security and privacy when needed

Awesome parking

A nice new place for meetings, trainings, etc...

A great place to interview potential team members

Space for evidence review

And a comfortable home for the ISS team!

Okay, back to work! Just needed to share that with all of you who have been so supportive of the ISS Team!

Have a WONDERFUL week!

Choosing the Right Paranormal Investigators

Choosing the Right Paranormal Investigators

‘You’re going to think I’m crazy, but…”

This is how most inquiries into paranormal services begin. Who could blame you? Seeing shadows, objects moving and strange noises would make anyone feel as though the perception of his or her surroundings were anything but normal. Couple that with the fact that your activity may be occurring in those places most familiar to you; a home or business, and you may feel positively unhinged!

Strange activity can be scary, but even scarier are the risks associated with letting the wrong people into your home to document those experiences. However, armed with the right information, you can feel confident that the people who you’ve chosen to help you will do just that.

While paranormal research groups have been in existence since the late 1800’s, the recent popularity of television programs like Sci-Fi’s “Ghost Hunter’s” has launched a plethora of new and diverse teams across the country. We’d like to believe that every team is upstanding and professional; unfortunately, the reality is that there are groups whose ambitions are less than admirable. Just as you might screen any professional you bring into your home, you must do your homework when it comes to paranormal investigators.

Most clients find a potential investigation team on the internet. This is a great opportunity to start your research. First, does the website contain a mission statement or code of ethics? If it does, great! A mission statement contains basic but important information you can use when deciding which teams to initially make contact with.

Paramount to any good team will be the Client. If client confidentiality doesn’t seem to be a priority to the team, start looking elsewhere. Whether or not you choose your investigation to remain confidential, every team should be willing to keep your personal information or evidence from the investigation away from the general public at your request. Be sure to ask about what documents will be signed to ensure your protection and what liability the team assumes. A team willing to forgo publicity on behalf of your security is most likely a team that has your best interests at heart.

A mission statement may also contain information about the type of investigation that will take place. Some teams will investigate only from a scientific point of view. Other teams prefer to use psychics and mediums to gather information. Many other teams prefer to use a blend of both. No style is right or wrong, but it is important that you find a team whose technique you are comfortable with.

If the website has a public chat or message board, sign up! You don’t have to reveal that you may be a potential client. This is a fantastic way to do some investigating for your self. Read the contributions made by team members. Note the tone of the conversations – is everyone being fair and respectful? A well managed discussion forum likely indicates a higher level of professionalism throughout the team.

Being a member of a forum may also give you a chance to anonymously meet and chat with the investigators who may potentially be entering your home or business. You might also find a page on the website with pictures and bios of the team members. Check how long team members have been in the group. While new team mates are always added over the course of time, a high turnover rate with no long term teammates may indicate problems within the team. Some teams may have done background checks on members before allowing them onto the team. Professional teams understand that you are allowing them extraordinary access to your valuables and cherished possessions, and will therefore take extraordinary steps to ensure your safety.

Most websites will have a gallery of pictures, EVP’s and videos. Read some of the commentary. Is there a section devoted to hoaxes or debunking? Beware of any group that always finds an entity or spirit. A professional team is dedicated to finding a logical answer to your activity before declaring it to be paranormal. Although for some clients it may be disappointing to find out that there is a logical answer for sounds or smells they’ve been experiencing, for other clients it may be a relief to find out that there is nothing out of the ordinary happening. A great group of investigators wants to present you with nothing but the truth.

Outstanding paranormal research groups will NEVER charge you a fee for a consultation, an investigation or follow-up meetings. If a group asks you for money, you should end contact with them. Serious researchers are interested in your activity to obtain evidence – not cash.

Since paranormal research groups are springing up all over the country with no oversight by any one particular organization, you should check the credentials and references of any group you are interested in inviting to your home. The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) has strict guidelines that a team must pass before considered a “Family Member”. You can go to taps.com and review the guidelines, then choose a Family Member in your area. In this way, you can ensure that a particular protocol will be followed. Also, be sure to check how long a team has been investigating. Since new groups are forming all the time, you may want to choose a group who has a proven track record over a period of years of providing excellent service.

Ask the potential investigative team for references of other clients in your area. Ask for names and numbers of other people who have been through the process and follow up with them. If the team can offer no references, it may be a red flag to keep looking.

Finally, an excellent way of finding a group who has your best interests in mind is to ask them about their follow-up procedure. Dedicated teams are willing to come back for another investigation, regardless if there was any activity witnessed during the initial investigation. Someone on the team should also be qualified to point you in the direction of religious or community services that can counsel you if the need arises. A great team will be able to arrange to meet with you within a short amount of time to review evidence gathered from the investigation and answer any questions you have. You should be able to have copies of any pictures, audio or video evidence collected at your home or business.

Finding the truth behind your activity can be an emotional and trying experience. We hope that this information will help you in finding a team that can bring you comfort at a time when you may be facing the unexplainable. The team you choose should have no higher priority than giving you and your family the utmost respect. Respect for your home and your possessions, respect for your stories and experiences and respect for your safety and anonymity. If at any time you feel a team is not treating you as a partner in the investigation process, you should find help elsewhere. Although paranormal researchers have a unique passion, they are also mothers, fathers, law enforcement officers, scientists, salesmen and bankers – and they are here to help YOU.

The ISS would like to announce a new Co-Owner

Good afternoon everyone!
I would like to announce that I have taken on a co-owner for the ISS. Matt has stepped up to that position and I look forward to working with him for many years to come.

Matt and I have been working together for about a year now and it has been awesome! He went from Lead to Manager and now the giant leap...brave soul that he is.

I can't wait to see what else is in store for the ISS because of this partnership. Matt brings a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm to the team and well as a no nonsense approach when it comes to business.

Matt and I have the same take as the rest of the ISS team, CLIENTS first and the rest falls into place.

Congrats Matt and thank you!

Year to date and a thank you!

Hello Everyone!

Wow, this year is just flying by so far. I guess that is bound to happen when you are having such a great time and are surrounded by such wonderful people. I could go on forever about these awesome folks and still those words would not do all that they do and all that they are justice. Not by a long shot. It can be hard to find dedicated, honest people that you can work this closely with and that is just what we have here.

The ISS is growing in leaps and bounds and we are not finished. Our goal is to be able to serve our clients and the research we do in the most timely and effect manner possible and we are doing just that. We always have done that, but it gets better daily. Just look at everything past clients, friends and associates have said about the ISS.

We have over 400 registered members on our website so the place is hopping. It is the place to be for paranormal news, articles, tech chat, friends who share a similar interest and lots, lots more. We are always looking for ways to improve and we always strive to make everyone feel comfortable.

The people who have joined us to show their support are phenomenal. I am proud to consider them among my friends. They resemble family more than just strangers on a message board. When you visit the ISS message boards you are not a stranger for long. Everyone there will see to it that you feel welcome and are cared about. They assist and advise each other and I hope this continues for many more years to come.

The ISS now has teams in Portland OR, E. Idaho and Montana and we still have two more teams to add, for now. We will be adding more teams in Oregon and Northern Idaho.

I cannot say enough good about the Directors of those teams. Talk about top notch! These ladies and gents have a true passion for the field of paranormal research and are serious about the help they provide our clients. They each have taken on some very impressive team members to assist them in reaching their goals.

Years from now I cannot wait to be sitting around with them at an ISS meeting or event sharing years worth of research, findings and friendship. Of course that would have to held in a wonderfully haunted location!

We have a lot of things planned for this year so if you have not taken the time to get signed onto the board, now would be a good time to do that. I would hate for you to miss out on anything!

To all of our ISS clients, thank you! Thank you for allowing us into your homes and businesses and having faith in what we do here at the ISS. We appreciate each and every one of you and hope that we have touched your lives as much as you have ours!!

The Holiday Season
Dec 18 2007 2:01pm

Hello Everyone!

I have been working on the website and in case any of you are wondering, yes, this re-build that is being done is being done my little old me. I have learned so much about website design in the past year and I am proud to say that about 98% of it is self taught. Thanks for your patience as we get it back up on line and where it should be. We have some great new features coming!

Wow, what a great season this is turning out to be! We recently had our annual ISS Christmas party and we all had a wonderful time.

We kicked off the night with our monthly meeting and then it was on to dinner. I think this is one of the best feasts we have had to date. Two large turkeys, 2 hams, and the side dishes were amazing! Stephen and I provided the turkey, ham, potatoes, stuffing and corn and then the rest was a potluck. We have some amazing cooks on this team.

This party is my way of saying thank you to such a wonderful team for all of their hard work throughout the year and work hard they do!

This is also a great time for us to sit back, relax and reflect on the past year as well as setting things in motion for the upcoming year. 2008 should prove to be a wonderful year. We are already booking lots of cases, have some great trips planned and lets not forget TAPS Con in July!

Once we were fairly stuffed and happy we began the raffle. There were some fantastic gifts given out and everyone seemed to leave happy. Especially Laurie who took home one of everything I think..LOL Way to go Laurie!

There were also a couple of gags gifts handed out, all with love of course... Kelsey got her much loved and wanted PINK ISS T-Shirt and Matt now has a stunning rhinestone toolbelt all his own thanks to Kelsey. LOL

Kelsey I still want pictures!

The best thing about this whole meeting/party were the candy donations that they team members brought for the children at Helping Hands. We had 80 stockings to fill and I think we reached that goal easy enough. We delivered the donated items the next day and the Director was thrilled. She just laughed and laughed and was very excited about stuffing each stocking. Now the kids will have a sweet suprise when they wake up Christmas morning. Now this is what it is all about. Helping others and your community!

Well back to work. I will be sure to do better about keeping these blogs up on a regular basis from now on. Really I will!

We made it through October!
Nov 06 2007 11:51am

Hello everyone! I hope this finds you all doing well and looking forward to the holiday season ahead!

Oh boy have we been busy here at the ISS and of course we love every minute of it! There is nothing better than being out in the field and assisting clients.

We had about 1900 website hits for October alone!! That is awesome. We continue to grow and reach out to Idaho and the surrounding states and will continue doing so. Thanks to all of you that have in any way assisted with this growth!!

Be sure and visit the website and message board to see what we have been up to.

I have to go on record as saying we are affiliated with some of the best people. The ISS family is awesome! They are a team of kind, caring, intelligent, loyal people. I look forward on a daily basis to working with all of them. They are outspoken and not afraid to show their support for each other and our mission.

And the friends on our message board? Who could ask for better? These are sweet people, who are certainly becoming part of our extended family in a lot of ways and I am honored to know them!

Okay, back to work! Have a great week!

Why are some so negative...
Aug 09 2007 11:14am

Why is it, when some are not doing as well as others (although most of these would like you to believe they are doing far more than they really are) the one not doing so well feels the need to tear the others down? It is a sad thing to me and one you see often in this field.

Maybe I am one of the lucky ones. I am surrounded by a great team who is dedicated, loves what we do here at the ISS and believes in what we are doing to assist our clients and the charities that we are able to help out.

Sure, we are small in comparison to some and cannot donate a lot of time or money, but we do our best and our hearts are in the right place. That is what really matters right?

I have the entire TAPS Family that I can call on for assistance, advice, friendship, etc.. when we need it and man, that means a lot to me. The friends I have made there are many and I would do anything in the world for any of them just as I would for any team out there who needs it and is doing what they can, to the best of their abilities to further the research in this field of study.

For those of you, whether you have been in the field for a million years or are just starting up and have come accross someone like this, take these things from the source.

When someone is speaking poorly about another person (or team of people) it is usually because they have hidden issues of their own that they are trying to keep hidden. There are the exceptions to the rule. If someone has documented proof of what they are saying, I know I keep everything, then they may be worth listening to.

They may not know as much as they would like you to think (You can only learn so much from a book when you have no real, in the field experience and spend their time picking at others right?) and eventually someone that knows the real person they are will speak out.

So, keep doing what you are doing, educate yourself on a regular basis in the field and out. Get out there and call on help when you need it. Someone will hear that call and will be there!

Executive Director

We here at the ISS are very big on assisting where we can. Whether that is in our own community or somewhere else in the U.S.

Here is a very nice e-mail that was recieved from a fellow TAPS Family Member. We sent a donation to them for a charity auction they were hosting.

The ISS Joins the TAPS family.
Feb 21 2007 10:32am

Wow! What a great day this has turned out to be!

We applied for and went through the interview process and were accepted into the TAPS family. We are listed for Idaho, Oregon and Montana. We here at the ISS could not be more thrilled.

We have a great team of investigators and have worked hard to make it to this level of acceptance in the paranormal community. I do not want to sound like I have an ego, but lets face it, we are the #1 team in Idaho!!!! and this shows it.

Thanks to all of the ISS team and our clients who were all williing to step up to the plate with their recomendations! We would not be where we are without all of you!

We will be celebrating all day and then back to work!

Have a great week!

Marie

ISS Meeting 2-17-07
Feb 19 2007 4:08pm

It was smooth sailing and we covered a lot of ground. We chose a charity to sponsor on an ongoing basis and filled up the calender for sometime to come.

As always, we had a large turnout. If this keeps up (it has already been this way for well over a year now) I am going to have to rent office space with lots of wide open room..Hey, that is not such a bad idea really...LOL

Thanks to all of you that come out faithfully and to the new people that joined us. It is always a pleasure to have you in my home. The energy is great for days afterwards!

Life is good at the ISS!
Feb 08 2007 9:06am

Good morning everyone!

I have to tell you, every day I feel blessed to have the team and clients that we here are the ISS have. The transformation that has taken place over the years has been amazing to say the least.

We have a team of well trained, educated and dedicated, involved people who want to see the ISS grow and continue to be the #1 team in Idaho (is there really any other?).

We strive for and maintain excellence. Every meeting is packed, the message board is rockin and we are all out on the road in search of great places. Team members in Idaho (all parts), Oregon and Montana are on the lookout daily.

This entire team jumped in and went to work on everything from donating to local charities and families in need to helping out their fellow team members.

They go above and beyond for all of our clients and for that I am grateful.

You will be thrilled to see some of the places and events that we have lined up for 2007. We will be working with the media, recording a documentary and even traveling to far off haunted locations all in an effort to further our research and bring that information right into your homes. Excited? I know we are.

To all of my fellow team members, fellow paranormal investigators and to all of our gracious clients, thank you for making the ISS what it is. We all have to work together in this field to make it work and that is just what all of you have done.

Thank you!

Great Holiday Party_Meeting on the 16!
Dec 18 2006 2:33pm

What a great weekend this was!

We had the annual ISS Holiday Party and our Monthly Meeting on the 16th. The place was packed with team members, friends and family. Everyone had a great time.

I will be sure to get the pictures that I took up on the site very soon.

There was a ton of food and I think everyone went away full and happy.

We were able to gather several donations to help a local charity and although we had short notice I think we showed what the ISS was made of when we packed up the back of Mercedes' SUV. It was overflowing! Great job everyone! I am sure the family and that organization will appreciate the work that all of you put into gathering all that stuff.

I have to say that we have some of the most kind and caring people on this team that I have ever met. They truly care about others and go out of their way time and time again to help individuals and the community. It is an honor to work with all of them.

We began building the foundation for what is too come in the next year and I can't wait to be able to share it with all of you! We are gearing up for some great things! We think you will be pleasantly suprised. Let's just say 2007 will be the best year ever!

Okay, back to work. Need that paycheck don't ya know. Have a wonderful day everyone!

What a great team!!
Dec 11 2006 11:03am

Hello! Thank you for joining me here. My home away from home. Please take a seat and make yourself comfortable. There are lots of great things at this site and I am sure, that as time goes on there will be a lot more to read in this blog.

For those of you that may not know...I am the Executive Director of the Idaho Spirit Seekers. I love what I do and take it very seriously. I get to do something that a lot of people never get to do and something that is incredibly rewarding.

What is one of the best things about the ISS you ask? Well I can tell you, hands down, the best thing about the ISS is the people that I get to work with. I care very much about the clients that contact us and we do our very best to assist them and make them comfortable. And the team....oh...let me tell you about the team that I work with.

Stephen - Well most of you know he is the love of my life. He is kind hearted, caring, faithful and what a great father! He does a lot of technical support for the ISS and of course, he supports me in what I do and who could ask for more. He is all of that and so very much more.

Kelly - Kelly kept the ISS alive even before I came along. The ISS was founded by Lori and when she was not able to keep it going due to personal circumstances Kelly picked up the ball and ran with it. She did the best that she could and then I came along. We forged a lifetime friendship and worked very hard towards the goals that we set as well as the ones that Lori had in mind when she founded the ISS. Kelly gave up all dates, weekend parties, etc... for close to 2 years as the Vice President of the ISS. Once it was up and rolling and going in the direction we had set for it she stepped aside and now has a life. Kelly is one of the funniest people I know. She is also one of the most hard working people I know. She is a faithful friend who I love dearly and feel honored to work with.

Brett - What a great guy! He was the first Lead Investigator the ISS had and continues to be a huge support to the team. He is well respected by his fellow team members as well as adored. He is kind and very well grounded. He is logical in his thinking and a pleasure to discuss the paranormal with. Brett has been on the team about as long as Kelly and I have been. I treasure having him on the team and look forward to many more years.

Laurie - I cannot say enough good things about this lady. A true friend, she is kind hearted and loving. She takes pride in everything that she does and it shows in her glowing smile. We tease Laurie all the time about being late for the meetings and she just smiles and says, "Better late then never." She is so right about that. Laurie is loved deeply by all who meet her. She is honest and sincere in her personal life as well as business. I am truly blessed to have her as a friend.

Susan - What a gal! Susan is so full of life and has a bubbly personality. She is honest and faithful and we all adore her. She is the one that has the ability to always make someone smile even during the worst of times. She is caring and wants nothing more than to be able to help people. She is a great mommy and dotes on her beautiful daughter like any proud mommy would.

The people you see listed above are the original 5 of the ISS team that have been hugely instrumental in making it what it is today. They are very near and dear to my heart, as is the whole team. They will always have a place here and my door will always be open to them.

Julie - Julie is a very gifted and talented person. When she sings, it reaches deep into your soul. I have a pretty good ear and let me tell ya, there are not very many people that I would say that about. She truly has a gift. She is also very intelligent and tons of fun to be around.  She cares a great deal about her friends and can be very loyal to them. She also has a great eye for beauty and is able to capture that in her photography.

Jennifer - What a wonderful, kind, caring, intelligent, and funny person! Everyone loves Jennifer. She is fair and balanced and has a huge heart. She has a logical mind and listens to people with an open heart. She has helped to make the website a huge success and her knowledge of photography is incredible. Jennifer is also beautiful inside and out and people gravitate towards her. Once you meet her you can't help but love her.

Aaron - Oh my! What a great guy! Aaron has made me laugh harder and longer than just about anyone has ever been able to do. He has a fantastic sense of humor that is unmatched. Aaron, I still think you should be doing stand up. There is another side to Aaron that most do not get to see. He is also very, very gifted poet and writer. His thoughts are deep and thought provoking to be sure. If you are ever given the opportunity to read some of his writing you will see what I mean. Talented, loving, kind and intelligent are just the beginning of Aaron. A true friend indeed.

Wendy - Trusting to a fault Wendy has been hurt many times because of her trust in her belief that all people are good until they show her otherwise. She gives her heart freely and loves her friends deeply. She is one of my best friends and I trust her unconditionally. She has been instrumental in her position as a case manager for the ISS. I am so glad to have her back on board and look forward to many, many more years of working with her.

David - He is a true gentleman. David is our grave master. He does a lot of research behind the scenes and because he travels so much for work we are able to see places that we may not be able to get to or that would take us a lot of time and expense to visit as a team. He is adored by everyone on the team and is a talented photographer.

Rita - Rita is a HUGE supporter of the ISS. Her unwavering commitment to the paranormal and the people that contact the ISS is amazing. She is one of my best friends and I cherish that friendship. She is a true healer in every sense of the word and has an inner strength that is amazing even to me.

Kari - Kari is a tender, kind soul. She reaches out to everyone and has nothing but good in her heart. She has a love for the paranormal that is undeniable and her loyalty to the ISS is a gift. She is a pleasure to work with and as with all of the others, I see this relationship continuing for many more years.

Darrell - Darrell is Kari's husband and a great support to her and the ISS team. He seeks a deeper understanding of the paranormal and is very logical in his thinking. He and Kari are the wonderful parents of 2 sweet children.

Karen - Oh my! Karen is a blast. She has been one of our Oregon contacts for a very long time, but recently moved back to Idaho. She will still work in the capacity of organizing Oregon investigations since she knows just about everyone in the state, but we are sure glad to have her here now. She is a blast to be around and I look forward to getting to know her even better in the future.

Trinity - Trinity is one of the most open and kind hearted people that you will meet. She is always optimistic and strives to better herself daily. She is currently taking courses in Criminal Justice and looks forward to getting her degree. All A's so far! Keep up the good work Trinity. Even when life is tough she always makes time for her friends and her work in the paranormal field.

Gina - I love working with Gina. She is very quite and comforting to others when the situation gets a little spooky. She is loving and kind. She has been a huge asset to the ISS. Gina has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Love having you Gina!

Sandra - Sandra is another of our Oregon contacts. She is a motherly type that always wants to make sure that everyone is okay and doing well. She has had a tough year health wise, but still she never fails to make the time to check in and see that everyone else is doing okay. She is an angel for sure.

Colter - Talk about the energy! Colter is hard working and very excited about his work with the ISS. He is always positive and ready for anything that may come along and I love that about him. When he gets the call for an investigation it is just like a kid in a candy store. He is also a very hard worker and we are grateful for the work that he does in our national forests. All summer he spends jumping into fires, something I would not be able to do, all in an effort to save lives and one of our last remaining beauties. Thank you!

Gordy and Kathy - Gordy and Kathy are our Las Vegas contacts and I am sure that most of you know, they are also my parents. Their support of me, along with the rest of my family, has allowed me to do and experience things that most people would not have been allowed to know. I love them both dearly and am glad that they are on my team.

Toni and Bill - What a great team they make. They have been working very hard to get the CDA team up and running and Toni is a never ending fountain of great information. I was so excited the first time that I got to meet Toni and all for good reason. She is a ton of fun to be around and I am proud to be able to call her friend.

Jon - Jon has been on a small break. Something about it being important to get a new roof and bathroom into the house that he is working on. Go figure. Jon is fantastic and we love it when he is able to join us on an investigation. He is very knowledgeable on the tech side of things and he is a great teacher! Thanks Jon!

Ralph - Since Ralph has joined the team I have come to know him as a very dear and loyal friend. He will do whatever is needed to help someone who is need even if that means he may be uncomfortable or may have to do without. I look up to him for that. I love the growing friendship that we have.

The following people are very new to the team and are still in a training phase. Although I am still getting to know them as well as I know the people above I can tell you that they are committed to the ISS and the paranormal field in general. They all have a love for this subject and look forward to learning so much more. I look forward to working with each and every one. I am positive that they will fit right into this big, wonderful family.
